Jewish Inflected Spanish Heavy Metal? Atzmus Still Rocks!
The last time we posted about Atzmus, an Argentinian Heavy Metal Band fronted by a Chabad Rabbi, it seemed as if they were no longer active. I mean what did we know? Our Spanish sucks after all. Well, it turns out we may have been a bit off. Or a lot off. See, Spanish is a very lyrical language. The fact that songs like La Bamba, Guantanamera, Hey Maccarena, Bamboleo etc. were sung in Spanish and thus mostly incomprehensible didn’t stop the spirit of the music from being conveyed to listeners. That’s probably why we liked Ciudad Del Luz (City of Light) so much. But these Atzmus guys, they don’t do anything in Inglés. We can’t keep up with them. We don’t even know the names of the band members. But I randomly visited their Facebook Page and it seems they are active and have a big show coming up on October 12 at the Teatro Vorterix which I guess is a music venue in… uh… Argentina. If you’re in Argentina on October 12th, you should totally go. In the meantime, we hope you enjoyed one of their newest videos No Hay Mundo Sin Amor – which means “No World Without Love” – shot in a for real synagogue. Also, keep up with these guys at their YouTube Channel. I have a feeling we’re going to hear more about them in the future. Also, if anyone reading this understands Spanish and can tell me who Atzmus is, where they came from and, you know, what the fuck… I’d appreciate it.
