Bint El Funk: Umak!
February 8, 2016 6:02 pm
Remember a while back we told you about Jerusalem Yemenite Funk band Bint El Funk (Daughter of Funk) and their attempt at crowdfunding their next album? Well, apparently some people donated some shekels and we have the first result of that effort – a bedouin folk song called Umak. See? Crowdfunding really does work! Anyhow, I have no idea what any of the lyrics mean but the song is awesome. It starts pretty strong and then closes with some awesome brass, some crazed singing by Shiran Karni that’s reminiscent of Nina Hagen, and it comes all together in a dope mix that legitimately generated blasts of desert heat out of my speakers. Seriously. Knocked me right out. Let me know what you think!
